Second Order Change

The concept of second order change originated in psychotherapy in 1974 when Watzlawick, Weakland, and Fisch published their now classic book, Change: Principles of Problem Formation and Problem Resolution, which included definitions of first and second order change. Much of the current literature about second order change comes from the social sciences.
