Program Description

Using effective instruction on a day-in and day-out basis is at the heart of improving student outcomes. Education in Maine is awash with so many initiatives: RtI, proficiency-based education, technology, 21st Century skills, customized learning, a sea of new learning standards…and more.

But in the end -- it's instruction that really matters!

Teachers, principals, mentors, curriculum leaders and others: If you are interested in becoming better at pulling everything together and focusing on effective instruction—this workshop is for you!

Takeaways include skills for:

  • Identifying and communicating learning goals
  • Helping students interact with new knowledge
  • Helping students practice and deepen their understanding
  • Developing effective relationships with students
  • Setting conditions for highly engaged students
  • Providing feedback that guides and motivates students

Bring a school team and join other Maine educational leaders for a day with Dr. Debra Pickering, Senior Scholar for Marzano Research Labs, as she helps us move from theoretical to practical use of the framework in The Art and Science of Teaching: A Comprehensive Framework for Effective Instruction by Robert Marzano.
